At last! An electrician who comes when he says he will. The young man who came to fix my light was very polite, and I felt he was thorough in what he did. My light was flickering and getting very hot, and he tightened everything up, as that seemed to be the issue. What is a consumer unit and why might it need upgrading?

A consumer unit, more commonly known as a fuse box, is a collection of miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) that control the flow of electricity to the appliances in your home or business.

These MCBs are responsible for cutting power to specific rooms or the entire premises in the event of an unforeseen accident or emergency. For example, if your circuitry receives an unexpected surge in power or your property suffers a flood or water leakage, your consumer unit would automatically prevent the risk of an electrical fire by switching off the power.
